Left Write Hook documentary wins MIFF 2024 Audience Award

After a successful premiere season at the Melbourne International Film Festival, the Left Write Hook documentary was the joint winner of the Intrepid Audience Award.

This award crowns viewers’ favourite title from the festival, as determined through online and app votes.

We are so incredibly proud of this achievement and humbled by how audiences have responded to the stories of the survivors that bravely shared their journey through the Left Write Hook program in our documentary.

Some words from Left Write Hook Founder Dr Donna Lyon:

“This feels like celebrating 4+ years of incredibly deep and profound creative process and work.

“I want to say congratulations to my little and adult selves and the Left Write Hook team for winning this award.

“We have shined a spotlight on shame. We have made something beautiful out of something sad and tragic.

“I’m so proud of our commitment and bravery.”

As an organisation, we want to thank the Melbourne International Film Festival, Decjuba Foundation, Sweetshop Green, and the film festival audiences for your incredible support.

Together, we can make a difference in the lives of survivors and break down the silence and shame surrounding this endemic social problem.
