A message from our CEO
To our amazing community of survivors, supporters, advocates and cheerleaders,
Last year was HUGE for Left Write Hook. I limped to the finish line with an overwhelming sense of pride and gratitude.
Some highlights:
We delivered 5 community programs and 4 RCT programs
Our documentary had its world premiere and national release, and also picked up the audience award at MIFF
Maryanne, Annie and Kylie all joined the team and jointly have been working hard to streamline operations and increase our reach so that we can support more survivors
We ran our first Train the Trainer program, work we will be able to expand on this year as we upskill the next cohort of lived/living experience program facilitators and trauma-informed boxing coaches
This is truly just a snapshot. You can see a little more about all our achievements from the year in our impact report.
What’s next?
We currently have 350+ people on our waitlist.
We know there is demand for our program, and we want to reach as many survivors as possible.
To do this, we need funding.
Our top priority is securing the funds and resources that we need to scale and meet the national demand.
Alongside this work, we continue to prioritise improving the delivery of our programs. Two big points of focus for us are:
Implementing psychologist-led intake procedures for all facilitators, coaches and participants
Expanding our support for facilitators and coaches, including delivering formalised training programs and increased access to mental health support during program delivery
These processes are part of our commitment to safeguarding both participants and trainers, ensuring our programs remain ethical and impactful.
Overall, it will be a year of organisational growth. We are a lean, mean machine and have already accomplished so much.
There is so much opportunity ahead of us and I look forward to seeing our organisation play a small part in the recovery journeys of the survivors that join our community this year.
Watching Left Write Hook grow has been one of the greatest joys of my life. I have found my purpose.
I’m so grateful to share this journey with all of you, and I can’t wait to see what we achieve together in 2025.
With love, strength, and gratitude,
Donna
