Evaluation of the Left Write Hook program for men

Thanks to The University of Melbourne we’ve released preliminary findings from an evaluation of Left Write Hook program for men who are survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

This study took place during our Men’s Pilot Program in Wyndham 2025 and explored whether the program could support improvements in trauma-related mental health through the combination of expressive writing, non-contact boxing, and peer connection in our 8-week program.

The early findings are very encouraging.

Participants reported reductions in complex post-traumatic stress symptoms, improvements in trauma memory quality, and fewer negative beliefs about themselves after completing the program. Men also reported feeling more able to speak up, feel at peace, and connect emotions to their experiences.

While the study was small, the results suggest the program may offer meaningful mental and physical support for male survivors and provide a strong foundation for future research.
