Building community together

This month, we delivered Building financial confidence after trauma, a free online session bringing together lived experience, practical financial knowledge and community in partnership with Beyond Bank.

Maryanne, our head of operations, opened the session by sharing her lived experience and reflecting on her relationship with money and Marlaina from Beyond Bank shared practical information about budgeting, bank accounts, joint accounts, debt, credit, scams and financial abuse.

Some attendees shared that they valued hearing Maryanne’s story, learning about joint accounts and different types of bank accounts, and understanding the importance of having conversations about money.

But one of the biggest takeaways for us was the importance of creating space to come together. Safe, collaborative spaces where lived experience is valued and our community can connect, learn, ask questions, share experiences, or simply be with one another without judgement.

Creating opportunities like this can help make having difficult conversations a little easier.

A huge thank you to Beyond Bank Australia for sharing your time, knowledge and support.

We are grateful to everyone who registered, everyone who joined us live, and everyone who contributed to making the session such a warm and supportive space.

If you registered but couldn't attend, or would like to revisit what was discussed, you can now watch the recording below.

We hope this resource continues to support conversations about money, financial confidence and choice beyond the session itself.
