More than a fight, more than a win

This weekend the Left Write Hook team and community, including many survivors, fighters and supporters, gathered to stand by Maryanne, who stepped into the ring after 12 years.

It was incredibly moving to hear the overwhelming amount of support in the crowd as she took on this challenge.

Just before the fight, Maryanne shared:

“Coming back into this space has been an extraordinary. The nerves are real, and I know the first 30 seconds tonight might test my legs — that’s just adrenaline doing its thing.

One thing I’m taking into the ring is as a survivor of childhood trauma - we have to forgive our bodies when anxiety speaks loud. Then we settle, find our rhythm, and fight on.”

Maryanne came in strong, had her opponent on the ropes and finished the fight within the first round. We are glowing with pride at her win! Congratulations, Maryanne!

It takes an immense courage to enter the ring, especially for those carrying our history. Maryanne’s win is a reflection of the bravery our community shows every day.

We are not strong because of our past, we are strong despite it.
