Maryanne steps back into the ring
On 18 April, Maryanne, our now Head of Operations at Left Write Hook and past participant, will be stepping back into the boxing ring for the first time in 12 years. Her return represents the long-term impact of survivor-led, trauma-informed practice and what is possible when survivors are supported not only to heal, but to thrive.
“This is more than a fight. This is what it looks like to rise.”
Maryanne shared with us some thought about her upcoming fight:
“Boxing found me at a time when I had to rebuild myself from the ground up. It gave me structure when things felt chaotic, strength when I felt small, and a way to channel everything I carried but couldn’t always say out loud.
Every round I’ve trained for this is bigger than fitness. It’s about survival.
It’s about learning to stand your ground, to breathe through pressure, and to keep moving forward even when it hurts.
I’m not stepping into that ring as the person I used to be.
I’m stepping in as someone who fought their way back - and is still fighting.
This moment represents resilience, healing, and refusing to stay silent.”
We’re really proud to see her stand tall and and take on this new challenge, and we’d love to have you there to support her journey too. Join us:
